Monstarr: The Story So Far February 17, 2005 - 9:35 a.m. I really ought to talk about the weekend just gone as it was really quite stupendously good. Friday night was drinks for Vals birthday in the ever cool Lincoln Lounge. The usual suspects were there, David, Albert, Lloyd, Hani, Richard, Freddie, me and Stephen. Steve and James turned up later. There were also three gay guys that Val met at trade at new year. I have to say that freddie was wearing the coolest top with a big lightning bold on it and some wild bright blue eyeshadow, she never changes! The birthday girl herself looked resplendent in a black blouse and skirt and had put away quite a few drinks before Stephen and i reached the bar. Fair play to Val though, she didn't seem drunk at all. Val had managed to procure the sofa area at the back of the bar so most of us got seats. I had a chat with Andreea and Adam and failed to persuade them to come to popstarz. The guys Val had met in Trade at NY had decided to go to G.A.Y so Lloyd dragged one of them round to toher people to get them to change their minds. The rest of us, of course, wanted to go to Popstarz. So, off we went. Richard had managed to get us guest list (hurrah!) which was a good thing coz the queue was huge. We still had to wait quite a long time for the cloak room when we got in. Popstarz was excellent, we boogied in the trash and indie rooms and as always I managed to spill most of my drinks whilst dancing madly. I hadn't been to popstarz in ages and it was good to be back. Val managed to grab a CD in the Chicks on Speed giveaway (she always manages to get cool prizes!)and there were poster everywhere though they weren't that great I thought. On Saturday I was hugely lazy despite not being hungover. My great achievement of the day was getting dressed. Richard invited Val, Stephen and myself over for dinner. He gave us yummy food and as always we drank lots of wine, had a bit of a disco and ended watching Nadia's pop video again. That video is pure comedy! We had an earlyish dinner because we wanted to get to club motherfucker early to see the bands. Motormark (who I love) were the main band but the second band on were a glaswegian four piece called the multiplies who just happen to be managed by Amanda Mckinnon (Manda, ex of bis). The multiplies were ok, they had some great melodies and synth action going on but they didn't have enough lyric baes songs for my taste. Motormark were on form although they played their best two songs first which I thought was bad set list planning. As manda was there I thought Motormark may have performed a song from their debut album where Manda did guest vocals but they didn't, shame. It took me a couple of hours to work up the nerve to go and say hello to Manda. I don't know why really. I guess it was because I didn't want to bother her and I had had quite a few drinks by this point. Anyway, so I found her in the backroom where the performing bands hang out and I said hello. She seemed a little confused about why I wanted to say hi but once I had established my bis gee-like obsession she seemed to warm up. It also massively helped that she is friends with two other bis fans that I know. I spoke to her about the end of bis and the future. She gave me a four track cd of music she has been working on with Stephen and John and asked me to get in touch with my comments. How fucking cool was that?!? Absolutely beaming, I said bye to Manda and rejoined Stephen and the others. Manda rocks.
