Monstarr: The Story So Far February 02, 2005 - 9:34 a.m. Mystery still abounds whoever sent me "the corrections". It looks like a great book and I'd just like to say 'thanks' to whoever sent it. Reveal yourself mystery gift person! Very strange... I'm getting very exicted about the upcoming donnas, gravy train, le tigre gigs. I'm gonna get so sweaty dancing my ass off! I'm still loving myself sick with the mamas and papas anthology, I can't get enough! I've also just finished reading a biography on Agath Christie (sorry, Dame Mallowan) and it was a great read. I learnt a lot about her life and the book went into fabulous detail regarding the note books she used to create her novels. She was quite an eccentric women who strictly guarded her privacy. She was an independent, successful women who managed to get thorugh a failed first marriage in the days when divorce was a major taboo and when she was a celebtrity to boot. She had a fondness for creations but came to think of Poirot as "an unsufferable fool". I think she got sick of the demand for more stories. Thankfully, it seems she never lost her fondness for Miss Marple, whose characters she drew from elderly realtives that she was close too. That kinda makes me happy as I've always preferred Miss Marple to Poirot. Agatha Christie was one of the first 'adult' authors I ever read and I guess her book were one of my first proper obsessions. A good friend of my mums gave me about thirty Christie paperbacks when I was 12 or 13 and I still have them. My obsession went so far that at one point I started to write my own detective story, based in a boarding school. It didn't get very far! Though from a different generation (or two!) today, I think Agatha's books are still a great read. I still get surprised by her novels and am always entertained by the habits and language of the characters she writes about. 'The murder of Roger Ackroyd' is probably her most famed novel and it does have an excellent twist. One of my favourites is 'And then there were none' though it doesn't feature either poirot or miss marple. If anyone wants to borrow a book, just let me know!
