May 09, 2004 - 4:39 p.m.

We flew back to Sydney on the Saturday afternoon and got a cab to our hotel in Kings cross. I thought I had booked into a hostel but it turned out to be a low budget hotel.

The place was called “Springfield lodge”. It was an ok place, a bit drab, but we had a tiny en-suite in our room and it was clean and cheap. The lack of a kitchen resulted in us eating out a lot.

Kings Cross is like Soho. The place is buzzing 24/7 and the place heaves with a combination of locals, backpackers, prostitutes and endless amounts of fast food joints, bars and strip clubs. I’m proud to say I wasn’t invited into any of the strip joints. The bouncers could obviously tell a queer punk boy when they saw one, tee-hee.

The next day Lee-ann and I went to a gay fair day as part of the start of the Mardi Gras festival. I caught up with Matt and his Sydney mates and I also saw Dan, my old flatmate from Finsbury Park. It was a great day. Lee-ann and I got some fake tattoos done and we wandered round the stalls.

The following week was a flurry of shopping in the CBD, checking out circular quay, meeting up with friends and having many nights out at the gay bars of Oxford Street. We partied a lot, it was crazy! Coming home to kings cross at 4am isn’t too different to being there at 4pm!

We did go to some funky straight bars at darling harbour where Lee-ann and I would introduce ourselves to people as Kat Slater and Alfie Moon. That was a lot of fun. Lee-ann coped admirably with my party hard approach and we certainly did a lot of Sydney nightlife!

The following week was a tad calmer drinking wise. Lee-ann and I did a day at Manly, where we saw some sharks and stingrays being fed at the oceanarium and did some shopping. Lee-ann did the bridge climb with Eric, Atif and Greg. I ducked out, I really had no desire to do it and I hate heights. They all seemed to thoroughly enjoy it.

I treated Lee-ann to dinner on her final night and we saw some very hunky go-go dancers at Stonewall. We had a tearful parting at the airport the next day and before she left I gave Lee-ann a little crystal koala bear as a present. We had a crazy, fun and laughter filled month and I feel very happy and lucky that I got to spend it with Lee-ann. She flew to the other side of the world to see me! How am I going to be able to pay her back?! THANK YOU Lee-ann. I had an amazing time, I hope you did too. xxxx
