December 09, 2003 - 5:27 p.m.

Work has been more interesting than usual. I swore furiously in the treatment room after cutting my finger (d'oh!) but luckily there were no patients around to witness the stream of profanities that burst out of my mouth.

A group of female patients were gossiping together this afternoon about whether or not Clare (my colleague) was my girlfriend or not. They were very sweet about it, they thought we were travelling together as Clare is a fellow pome. Don't they recognise a flaming homo when they see one?

One patient made me laugh out of sheer embarrassment last week when she told me (during a discussion on waxing) that if I got my bikini line done then my "testicles would cringe". I didn't have much of a response to this, I just informed the lady that I'd avoid having my bikini line done.

Patients come out with the funniest things, it's part of the reason why I love being a radiographer.

I had a quiet one Friday night, I spent the early part of the eveing watching 'threesome'on one of the movie channels and then aeound 9.30 a guy called Adam came round. Adam is a guy who messaged me on gaydar because I had mentioned the ghetto in my profile.

He had spent some time in London recently and in a "just how small is the gay world" moment, it turns out that he is good friends with Gavins ex Chets. Anyway, Adam is a bit of a indie boy and seemed nice enough on the phone so I invited him round.

We got "Anita & Me" out from the video store and shared some red wine. Adam was a cool guy, I liked him. He is moving to melbourne in february to study so hopefully he and I can hang when I get there in March.

In other monstarr news I spent a totally kick ass weekend with my colleague and friend Clare. We decided to the spend the weekend on Rottnest Island which is about 30mins on a ferry off the coast of Perth. It is famous for flawless beaches, excellent snorkling and diving, and marsupials who look like large cute rats called quokkas.

We caught the 9.30 am ferry over from Fremantly and thankfully the sea was utterly calm. Bicycle is the famous way to travel round the island so I bought a bike from my place and Clare hired one from ferry company.

Once on the island we hired some snorkelling equipment and booked into the hostel. The hostel on the island is actually an old army barracks so there were signs on some of the doors displaying things like "sergeants quarters" and, according to Clare, there was a urinal in the girls bathroom.

Once we had dumped some of our stuff we cycled to one of the islands many bays called the basin. The sun was really hot and the water was crystal clear and a magnifincent shade of blue. We sunbathed for a while then dived in the water for some snorkelling. I had forgotten just how hard it was to stand up and walk in the sea with flippers on so I must have looked pretty funny flailing around in the water as I put my flipper on.

There wasn't a huge amount of fish and sea life around so we cycled further up the island to little parakeet bay. This bay was tiny but the snorkelling was excellent. I was a bit scared of seeing something big and scary but of course I didn't. I would've stayed in the water longer but I got cold and we had to return the snorkelling equipment by a certain time.

We showered back at the hostel where I discovered that I had not been vigilant enough with the sun cream. I was a litlte burnt in a few places but it wasn't bad at all and it didn't hurt. We got changed and walked into the main settlement on the island where all the food places are and the islands only bar. We ate ata a dome and had some wine which went down very well.

There were a couple of quokkas sniffing around. They really are sooooo cute. We had seen loads during the day. They aren't afraid of people at all and come up to you looking to get some food.

After eating we went to the bar and met up with Elaine (another girl from work) and her cousin. The bar was packed as there had been a swimming competition on that day. There was also a band on who weren't bad. I'm beginning to think that 'blister in the sun' by the violent femmes must've been a big hit over here as the band played it and they are the second bar band I have heard play it in a month.

I only lasted two or three hours and then I had to go to sleep. It's funny how lying out in the sun and doing a bit of snorkelling can wipe you out.

The next day we got up early and had egg & bacon in the hostel canteen. We cycled to a different bay which nearly killed us as the road was very hilly. We did some snorkelling and sunbathing before heading back to catch our ferry.

The crossing back was quite bumpy and I felt a little off colour by the time we got back to Fremantle. I was sorry to say goodbye to the island really. It was so beautiful with the best beaches I have ever seen. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and I had definitely go back if I had the time to do it.

By the time I got home I realised that yet again sun burn had struck. I had managed to slightly the burn the skin around my eyes and my forehead, d'oh! I used loads of factor 30, hey ho. None of the sun burnt hurt so I knew it wasn't too nad. I applied lots of aftersun and aloe vera gel and it's already looking less red, yay!

I popped out in the eveing to have a boogie with Damien at the court and by the time I got home I was ready to drop!

I had lots of lovely e-mails over the weekend including one from Eric informing me that he had booked his tickets over for Mardi gras. As you can imagine this put a smile on my face which is yet to fade. He's coming over with a couple of friends. Mardi gras seemed so far away recently but I suddenly realised over the weekend that it is almost christmas and it seems much closer now.

I have stayed after work to update my diary and my stomach is demanding that I go home and eat. I think I'll have chicken...
